Sharp Shooter By Marianne Delacourt

Tara Sharp should be just another unemployable, twenty-something, ex-private schoolgirl . . . but she has the gift - or curse as she sees it - of reading people's auras. The trouble is, auras sometimes tell you things about people they don't want you to know. When a family friend recommends Mr Hara's Paralanguage School, Tara decides to give it a whirl - and graduates with flying colours. So when Mr Hara picks up passes on a job for a hot-shot lawyer she jumps at the chance despite some of his less-than-salubrious clients. Tara should know better than to get involved when she learns the job involves mob boss Johnny Vogue. But she's broke and the magic words 'retainer' and 'bonus' have been mentioned. Soon Tara finds herself sucked into an underworld 'situation' that has her running for her life. Sharp Shooter is a hilarious, action-packed novel and Tara Sharp is Triple F: Funny. Fast. Feisty.

Shesaid says:

This is just in time for a good summer read by the beach or pool! This rollicking read is great fun, lots of conversation, plenty of slang and set in Perth with plenty of action. Be careful though you might just find yourself laughing out loud! Curiously, Marianne Delacourt is the pseudonym of a successful Australian science fiction-fantasy author who is sold throughout the world. Wonder who?? Marianne grew up in Perth and now lives in Brisbane with her husband and three sons. No wonder the Perth references are so authentic!

Hot House Flower

By Margot Berwin

"Eat Pray Love" meets "The Orchid Thief" in a captivating debut that transports us from the New York City advertising world to the wilds of the Mexican rainforest.

Lila Nova's spirit is fading. What she thought was a stable marriage is over, and her dynamic career in New York advertising is something she no longer believes in. At thirty-two she's lacking direction and she's grown disillusioned with big city life. But one Saturday afternoon in Union Square a chance meeting with a mysterious plant seller leads to an unforgettable night. Some passions are fleeting, but this time Lila has developed an obsession that's here to stay. As her Manhattan apartment grows lush with fire ferns and stunningly exotic flowers, Lila starts to feel her old, vibrant self coming back, and when the opportunity arises she escapes to Mexico in search of the places where her plants grow wild. In the dense rainforest of the Yucatan peninsula she meets Huichol shamans, herbalists and orchid obsessives, and begins to see glimmers of the meaning she's been looking for. And as her fantastical adventure unfolds, she meets a man who just might be able to dent her emotional armour...

Shesaid says:

People seeking advice on how to write their first novel are often told to write about something they know and Margot Berwin seems to have done this perfectly. As the story goes, the central character; Lila works in New York in advertising (as did Margot Berwin) and her life is turned around by an event in New York’s Union Square where Margot actually lives. All in all, this provides a great canvas for the story of an early thirties ad exec disillusioned with life and a trip to Mexico that turns into a magical adventure. Rumour has it that Julia Roberts has bought the film rights to this novel and is planning on starring in the movie version of "Hot House Flowers" herself! A great read for those in need of a life-changing story to spur them on to a change of their own, or just want a little summer escapism from their own life.

Vision in White By Nora Roberts

Childhood friends Mackensie, Parker, Laurel and Emmeline have formed a very successful wedding planning business together but, despite helping thousands of happy couples to organise the biggest day of their lives, all four women are unlucky in love. Photographer Mackensie Elliott has suffered a tough childhood and has a bad relationship with her mother, which makes her wary of commitment. But when she meets Carter Macguire, she can't stop herself falling for him, although his ex girlfriend is prepared to play dirty to keep him. Mackensie soon realises she has to put her past demons to rest in order to find lasting love...

Shesaid says:

If you are a fan of Nora Roberts novels, or you just like a good romance, then this one is for you. Roberts is able to write stories about strong ambitious women with great friendships and this one doesn’t disappoint. We especially love the dysfunctional relationship between Mackensie and her mother as well as the immense loyalty and friendship displayed by the four main characters, who manage to work, live and play together without too much drama. Can’t wait for "Bed of Roses" the second book in this trilogy.
