Oscars: Red-hot fashion and all the goss
The champagne has been popped, all the frocks have all been packed away and the little gold statues now have new owners. Although there was only a few weeks preparation for one of Hollywood’s biggest nights of the year, once the writers strike was over it was all hands on deck – as they say “the show must go on”.
We were all dying for a little red carpet action as we missed out with the Emmys this year and Grammys are just not the same thing.

Katherine Heigl - Getty ImagesSo the colour of the night was definitely RED. Taupe was sooooo last year! Red frocks dominated the Oscars red carpet, with actresses demonstrating old-fashioned glamour in feathers and jewels. Some of our picks for the “SheSaid Best Dressed” on the night were Katherine Heigl, channelling Marilyn Monroe right down to the matching red-hot lipstick – she was glowing! And our favourite British Lady in Red was Helen Mirren looking stunning and classy again. Heidi Klum looked amazingly stunning in her red ball gown. The Devil didn’t wear Prada; Anne Hathaway was gorgeous and fresh faced in her red dress too.
Some say Renee Zellweger looked mighty slim on the red carpet, but we were more concerned about her haircut. And do you think she and Richard Wilkins might have visited the same hair salon La La Land?

Anne Hathaway - Getty ImagesSpeaking of hair, what was that on John Travolta’s head? Surely it was not his real hair? And another hair disaster was one of our favourite spunks, Viggo Mortensen, who appeared to be still channelling his character from Eastern Promises, for which he was nominated as best actor. We loved him better in Lord of the Rings! Tilda Swinton wore a black one-sleeved bat-wing Lanvin frock, swept back hair and apparently no makeup. Was it a fashion hit or miss? The jury is still out for us fashionistas!
It was only last year that crooner James Blunt told gorgeous Czech model, Petra Nemcova, 28, “Goodbye My Lover” but she didn’t look to be still mourning the loss of the singer when she arrived at Sir Elton John's post Oscar’s bash with Madonna's ex-husband Sean Penn, 47. The pair looked very much an item. Sean was overheard saying Petra's "totally f*****g cool". That guy is so classy, isn’t he?
The post-show gossip definitely had tongues wagging about the amount of stars MIA. Where was TomKat, Will Smith, Scarlett Johansson, Brangelina, Catherine Z-J, Keira Knightley and a host of other A-listers who weren't at the awards? Word on the street there was even a planned red carpet rendezvous for Jen and Brad and Angelina? Now we would pay good money to see that little threesome meeting up in front of millions of people! Oscar host Jon Stewart cracked an Angelina Jolie preggers joke, saying: "And the baby goes to... Angelina Jolie. I'm stunned. Angelina couldn't be with us tonight, it's tough to get 17 babysitters on Oscar night."

Javier Bardem - Getty ImagesThe pregnant chicks were out in force with Cate Blanchett letting on she is having another boy. She told People: "He's actually asleep, believe it or not, which bodes well." Gorgeous Jessica Alba got in the Aussie spirit with an “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oy Oy Oy” with Richard Wilkins on the red carpet just after he tried to pull Cameron Diaz into the flower bed with him!
In the winners’ circle, we loved Marion Cotillard winning best actress for La Vie en Rose, even though she allegedly mimed the Edith Piaf songs in the movie! And our new favourite Hollywood star is Javier Bardem, winner for best supporting actor in No Country For Old Men, who looked particularly dashing in his tuxedo. And not forgetting our Aussie winner - Eva Orner for the best documentary feature Taxi to the Dark Side.
That wraps up our Oscars night – can’t wait for next year!
