Long Distance Love
Physical separation from the one you love can be hard to take.

Sometimes we have no choice but to be separated from our partner. Sometimes it’s a short separation, due to work or family commitments. Sometimes, it’s an ongoing separation caused by relocating to a new city or falling for someone who lives far away.

These tips will help make sure your love can last the distance.

• Maintain regular contact with your partner, by phone, SMS, email, postcards and letters.
• Vary the way you communicate - it adds a nice element of surprise and shows you care.
• Decide in advance what you will do for birthdays and anniversaries, for example, will you visit each other?
• Write an old-fashioned love letter to your partner that they can re-read and think of you.
• Invest in a web cam or Skype so you can chat face-to-face – well, sort of.
• When you do chat, don’t waste precious time whinging or complaining to your partner about insignificant things.
• Keep busy. Don’t become a hermit because you are separated from the one you love. See friends, enjoy your hobbies, and keep busy.
• Focus on the time when you will be reunited with your loved one, and the things you will do together.
• Don’t dwell on being separated. Instead focus on all the things you love about your partner.
• Remember that separation is a great test of the strength of your relationship. If you can get through this, you can pretty much get through anything.
