Has anyone come across any good modern wedding poems or readings that I could use at my wedding. I don't want anything too cheesy! Please help.

Mironside,
The only thing I hope you don't promise to do is love and obey ALL the days of your life.Love yes, if you can manage it but obey?

You are such a clever and articulate girl I'm convinced you can write your own.Guaranteed there won't be a dry eye in the house,or church,or beach....

Just heard on the radio that if you want The Rolling Stones to sing at your wedding you can have them for 10 million dollars. You would want to get married fast. They aren't getting any younger.

I love you. You are my best friend.
Today I give myself to you in marriage.
I promise to encourage and inspire you, to laugh with you,
and to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle.
I promise to love you in good times and in bad,
when life seems easy and when it seems hard,
when our love is simple, and when it is an effort.
I promise to cherish you, and to always hold you in highest regard
These things I give to you today, and all the days of our life.

and lol @ sandonato....geez only 10 million...I wonder if anyone would actually do that... Did you hear the other day that the average couple are spending 37 000 on a wedding even in this economic "crisis" ?
I can see how it could be done, but with kids, a house and a business, I could never justify it... I am going class all the way, rented suits or ebay bought dress from china (amazing dresses, really cheap, expensive postage...still for about 250 you are getting the dress and the postage, so all in all not too bad)
Simple wedding, no fancy stuff as I don't like being too fussed over, and going to do it in this garden www.flickr.com/

Andrew on the other hand wants it in a forest, pigs on spits, bar wenches, everyone dressed in medieval costumes, sword fighting, and he at one stage was "especially" growing his hair long so that he could look like the medieval princes of the time...(Gee I thought it was him just being to lazy to go to the hairdresses, silly me hehe)

It is really nice...edited by me to suit, and would love to use it in our wedding one of these days:D
I think there are so many beautiful wedding sayings out there, I just wish we would use those words and mean them more often than just weddings and valentines day

Thanks guys! Tommygirl that was perfect, I think I might just use it, if that's okay? Thanks so much!!!

I actually meant a reading for the church though I want my brother to do a reading but he's not particularly religious so I was looking for a nice poem or something. It's hard for find something not cheesy.

When are you getting married Tommygirl? It's such a full on thing to plan, isn't it?

Thanks for the encouragement Sandonato!

Hey Mel, getting married sometime within the next few years...no date, and I will jsut invite people 3 weeks before, I REALLY don't want a huge fuss...I don't have family on my side that I am close to, and the other half has closer friends than family...Something simple, to reflect our taste. It is very full on, even though we aren't doing anything too intricate. I have a book on wedding "speeches" poems and guess what, non-religious readings...I will post it to you on friday:D
